Back End Software Engineer

SAN DIEGO, CA

The successful Back End Software Engineer candidate will join an interdisciplinary team working with novel biosignal data, perfecting our multi-tenant distributed enterprise software with a focus on robotic measuring systems. The role will report to the Senior Director of Systems Integration responsible for hardware, software, firmware integration from user interfaces to communications with electrical and mechanical hardware. This individual will work with software and hardware engineers, bioinformatics scientists, assay developers, and project leaders to ensure the quality of our robotic measuring systems, biosignal assays, improve our existing applications and develop new ones. The primary development responsibility will the development of a .net back-end application as part of a team with flexibility to contribute to the development of a cloud based front end application, data base analysis application development, as well as cloud-based user application environment.

Responsibilities, but not limited to:

  • Leads the Global vision, strategy, and direction of Information Technology function.
  • Support Cardea’s internal and outsourced software development efforts to accomplish preset goals
  • Help define scope of projects and provide cost, time, resource estimates
  • Serve as a solution developer for multiple projects by providing various options
  • Support data architecture development that will impact to the accuracy, efficiency, and security of the company’s data flow
  • Design and implement algorithm software pertaining to classification and analysis
  • Conduct software design reviews for software developer peers
  • Work with QA to build and perfect test libraries and test cases
  • Provide insights from the database perspective when coming to project and product ideation
  • Provide technical training to internal users and support staff, and function as mentor to junior developers
  • The ideal candidate for this role will have prior software (especially backend ) development experience and skills in several of our relevant tools and languages (Java, C#, React, python, GraphQL, SQL, .NET Core) and comfortable with design and development on both web-based front end and back end



Qualifications:

  • M.Sc. or higher agree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. Equivalent industry experience accepted
  • 5+ years industry development experience using C#, .net, Java, Python, JavaScript or Golang
  • Strong in backend development, experienced with ORM/Hibernation, message queue, transaction serialization, multithreading, and concurrency control
  • Familiar with Java Spring Framework, Spring Boot, .NET core entity framework, and GraphQL
  • Have prior microservice development and deployment experience
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and people skills with the ability to work across functions
  • Familiar with Git, efficient working with an IDE like VS code, Visual Studio, Intellij and/or PyCharm
  • Know how to write complex SQL queries, having exposure to MySql or other modern RDBMS systems
  • Ability to work closely within a team as well as be able to interact with diverse members of the company at large
  • Able to work full time and available to meet daily with staff in San Diego during business hours in California
  • Experience in one or more of the following is a plus:

Data Analyst

SAN DIEGO, CA

The ideal candidate for this role will have a passion for a detail oriented, statistical approach to scientific data analysis. You will analyze biosignals recorded by new graphene based electronics coupled to active biological components. Analysis will be done using a variety of platforms such as Prism and Python Notebooks. You will coordinate with our Software Development Team to integrate successful new analysis approaches into our internally developed analysis software. The candidate will report to the Measurement Group Leader.  

Responsibilities, but not limited to:

  • Collaborate closely with bench scientists to perform statistical evaluation of experiment results
  • Create reports and presentations summarizing data and analysis for both internal and partner driven projects
  • Collaborate with scientists and partner companies to understand user needs and translate into appropriate statistical approaches, data algorithms, and visualization of data to provide conclusions and new insights
  • Proactive analysis of data to inform scientists of new correlations and directions for optimizing chip, biology, and overall system and assay performance
  • Create custom data visualizations and analysis approaches to aid in understanding experiment results
  • Develop analysis scripts or notebooks using a python tool like Jupyter Notebook
  • Collaborate with Software Development to set requirements for new analysis and data visualization modules and verify that created software meets those requirements

Qualifications:

IT Director

The Director of Information Technology will be responsible for Cardea’s global strategy, planning, and execution of all IT functions across the company. You will manage the IT team, which is responsible for the strategic deployment, ownership, and service across a wide variety of systems & tools. The successful candidate will have hands-on skills, a proven professional experience, and a detailed knowledge of industry’s best practice processes.  This role reports into the Senior Director of Systems Integration as our business model, partnership approach, and vision to convene the Internet of Biology includes a roadmap of collaborative and secure infrastructure/applications/data analysis, AI/ML on large and novel biology data streams, and hardware/firmware/software integration for measurement systems.  Overall, the Director of IT builds collaborative, effective partnering relationships at all levels and upholds the ongoing commitment to build scalable processes while maintaining high quality service in support of our values as the organization grows.

Responsibilities, but not limited to:

  • Leads the Global vision, strategy, and direction of Information Technology function
  • Develop the corresponding strategy for systems design and development - cloud, information systems, security, communication systems, etc.

  • Oversees design, estimation, and execution of project work plans. Direct revisions as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements. Determine the appropriate mix of internal resources and contracted resources to optimize cost and functional results
  • Implement a robust Business Continuity strategy and ensure systems can meet capacity requirements and Service Level Agreements, including Availability, Return to Operations (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO)
  • Define and execute a long-term cyber security strategy, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of all IT & data assets
  • Ensure that the IT processes are effectively designed, documented, operating and monitored such that there are no significant or material weaknesses in the IT controls related to financial reporting. This includes disaster prevention and recovery, and IT security
  • Build and maintain an external customer support software tool set and support operation of customer ticketing system
  • Provide first level support for external instrument fleet including management of Cardea custom software installations
  • Builds, develops, and manages a team capable of carrying out needed architectural and infrastructure initiatives
  • Manages department employees but also involved with day-to-day hands-on work
  • Collaborate with internal and external software development teams to create a robust data model and protocols to read, write and analyze data

Protein Assay Optimization Scientist

Senior Production Engineer

SAN DIEGO, CA

The ideal candidate for this role will have previous experience in manufacturing and a familiarity with basic laboratory procedures. This Senior Production Engineer role will be responsible for improving manufacturing quality, lead time and cost through active problem solving, developing solutions, and implementing process changes in accordance with the quality system. Attention to detail and the ability to author detailed reports are key to a successful candidate. We are looking for someone who has the dedication and focus to perform their tasks consistently, accurately, and with reproducible results. The candidate will report to the VP of Operations and will focus on production, inventory management, process improvement and quality control activities.

Responsibilities, but not limited to:

  • Be fully responsible for all internal Production related tasks and processes
  • Identify opportunities for improvements to the process and lead projects designed to implement those improvements
  • Prepare reagents and perform production related tasks per established Work Instructions
  • Design manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining, and material handling
  • Technical Transfer of new process steps and equipment. Apply GMP and GDP principles to assembly and test procedures and documentation. Perform Process Validation (IQ OQ PQ), Validation performance and Reports
  • Perform Design Verification, Validation, Process Validation and Test Method Validation
  • Perform process characterization studies with DOEs. Develop process improvements and design automation equipment and fixturing for hand assembly

  • Prepare production documents, such as standard operating procedures, manufacturing batch records, inventories, or productivity reports as needed

  • Collect hazardous or non-hazardous waste in correctly labeled barrels or other containers and transfer them to collection areas, inform Lab manager when these containers are near full
  • Perform bench processes to complete mechanical, electrical, and optical assemblies using hand and electronic equipment
  • Receive, pack, and ship items as necessary
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area

Qualifications:

  • Chemical, Mechanical, or similar engineering degree required. Master’s level is preferred
  • At least 3+ years of manufacturing experience including new process technology implementation and process optimization is required
  • Preferred experience with laboratory equipment including scales, pipettes, microscopes, pumps, ovens, and gas cylinders
  • Required, hands-on experience on drafting Protocols, Testing reports and Data Analysis
  • Lean Six Sigma or Six Sigma training and certification preferred
  • Experience in developing and implementing custom automated manufacturing equipment is highly desired
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365 including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
